"Beautiful and comfortable home. The listing was a little incomplete so it was unclear exactly what we were getting but pleasantly surprised. One very confusing experience is they never mentioned an actual couple lives on-site and are the hosts. They came by when we got there and were very kind and accommodating. "The Sand Wing is absolutely stunning, and the rooms are to an extremely high standard. Breakfast is also divine. That said, the service really lets the hotel down. For the prices they charge, I expected service to be exceptional, but unfortunately it wasn’t anything special. On top of that, the service charge added to the hotel bill at the end is outrageous. If you’re paying £5,000 for your stay, being charged around another £500 in service fees feels excessive, particularly when the service doesn’t reflect that level of charge. When we arrived, we were given a QR code and a brochure and told to message if there was anything we wanted to arrange. I messaged about a few things and received no response. When I chased it, I was then told that they no longer offered everything that was actually listed in the brochure we had been given. Bizarre, to say the least. Overall, it’s a stunning hotel, but if you’re considering staying, I would strongly recommend booking the brand-new Sand Wing. The hotel has huge potential, but for the prices they’re charging, the service really needs to improve. They need to go above and beyond to make the experience feel genuinely five-star."

"Lovely, stylish hotel in beautiful, peaceful location. Generous breakfast and good- quality evening dining available, though there are also a handful of cafe/bar/restaurants within a few minutes’ walk. Staff without exception friendly and helpful, with good English. Very relaxing atmosphere. Anyone interested in birds, nature and ecology will love the lagoon reserve, with its varied habitats, and if you’re willing to walk a little, you can find huge stretches of glorious beach all to yourself - though beware the Atlantic swells if it’s windy. Half an hour’s scenic drive takes you down the coast to pretty Porto Covo with its cliffs, coves, cafes and gift shops, whilst beautiful Évora is a couple of hours away and makes a lovely change for a day out. Or just chill on the hotel’s rooftop pool/bar terrace and wander down to the beach if you want to stretch your legs. The lagoon is shallow, with no waves, so good for wallowing or splashing about with small people. There’s a lifeguard on the Atlantic side and warning flags to indicate swimming conditions. We loved it all…"

"The outdoor pool was large and accessible. The breakfast was plentiful and also included a hot breakfast. Staff were helpful and friendly. It was a family friendly hotel. Rooms were clean. "Overall, the hotel was lovely. The room was clean and had everything we needed, although if you need an iron you need to request the whole laundry service. The staff were so helpful and really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. It is in a quiet area near the river but hard to walk anywhere from it. Only a short drive to Alcacer do Sal. The pool needed cleaning along the bottom and there was a long trail of ants along the corridor until our final night. The breakfast was delicious, a selection of cooked food, pastries, fruit, cold meat and cereals although most days there were a couple of bits missing, not that this mattered too much. Dinner in the evening was superb. Everything cooked to perfection and staff were very attentive. I would be happy to stay here again but maybe better for short stays"
